Reasons for Employers Not Hiring
Bosses in business were asked to list reasons for not hiring a job seeker. Given rank and order, from the most unwanted to least wanted; the 15 biggest gripes are as followed:
- Poor appearance
- Acting like a know-it-all.
- Can’t express self clearly; poor voice, diction, and grammar
- Lack of planning for work; no purpose or goals
- Lack of confidence or poise
- No interest or enthusiasm for the job
- Not active in school extracurricular programs
- Interested only in best dollar offer
- Poor school record
- Unwilling to start at the bottom
- Making excuses; hedges unfavorable record
- No tact
- Not mature
- No curiosity about the job
- Critical of past employers
