You must provide Photo ID each time you test
Eligibility -- General Information:
- You must be registered for at least 1 credit hour at Chemeketa during the term you wish to take a Challenge exam.
- You may challenge a specific course only one time, but you can take more than one Challenge exam within a term.
- You may not challenge a course for which you’ve already received a passing grade.
- You may not earn more than 24 credit hours at Chemeketa via Challenge exams.
- You may contact an instructor of the class being challenged to obtain a syllabus and information on study materials.
- You will take your exam on paper, not on computer. The test will have a time limit of 2 hours (unless otherwise noted).
- You may have to take a performance exam in addition to the written exam, depending on the course you challenge. If a performance test is required, then the Assessment Coordinator will direct you to the appropriate program director for the examination. That department will evaluate the performance exam and forward the results to the Assessment Coordinator.
- The Assessment Coordinator will contact you, regarding your Challenge exam grade(s).
Initial Fee: The Challenge exam fee is $25.
Prior to paying the initial fee, you will need to pick up an application from Testing Services in Bldg 2.
Payment-- Appointment Process:
- Pick up a Challenge exam application from Testing Services in Bldg 2.
- Take the application to Enrollment Services, 2nd floor, Building 2 and pay the $25 testing fee. The application must be stamped “PAID” by Enrollment Services.
- Return all paperwork to Testing Services and set up an appointment to take the test.
IMPORTANT (Test Dates):
Challenge exams are given only when Fall, Winter, and Spring terms are in session. Challenge exams are NOT offered during the summer. Testing Services will offer the Challenge exams during the following dates:
FALL TERM 2009 WINTER TERM 2010 SPRING TERM 2010
Sep. 28 – Nov. 20 Jan. 4– Feb 26 March 29 – May 21
Additional Fees:
If you pass the test and you wish to receive credit for the course, then you must pay all fees and in-district tuition at Enrollment Services, Bldg. 2, Second Floor. The fees must be paid during the same term the test was taken.
Payment Deadlines:
You must pay the tuition/ fees during the same term in which you take the Challenge exam. Payments are due no later than Friday before the end of the term:

Grading Policies:
- Letter grades for Challenge exams are assigned based on the following percentages:
90% - 100% = A 80% - 89% = B 70% - 79% = C
Below 70% will be considered unsatisfactory and will not be recorded on a formal transcript.
(Unless otherwise specified by the Instructional Department for a specific course.)
- Students who fail a Challenge exam will not receive credit on their transcripts and they will not be allowed to retake the same Challenge exam.
