2009-2010 Financial Aid Priority Deadlines
What is a financial aid priority deadline? It takes a long time for financial aid to be processed. Awareness of financial aid processing timelines and payment timelines help students have realistic expectations. When we know what to expect, we can plan in advance.
In order for your yearly financial aid application to be processed in time to pay for your term’s tuition and fee charges you must have all required documentation turned in to the Financial Aid office by the Priority Deadlines below.
Listed Below are the Financial Aid Priority Deadlines for the 2009-10 Academic Year:
| Target Term | Financial Aid Priority Deadline | Late Fees ($25 each) Assessed |
| Winter 2010 | July 30, 2009 | 1st late fee 10 days after registration; 2nd late fee on February 12; 3rd late fee on March 12 |
| Spring 2010 | November 6, 2009 | 1st late fee 10 days after registration; 2nd late fee on May 7; 3rd late fee on June 4 |
If you miss the Financial Aid Priority Deadline for your target term, Chemeketa still processes your financial aid (if you are eligible), however, you will be responsible for paying for your tuition and fees, books and other education expenses.
If you have not met the financial aid priority deadline for the target term you want to attend, how you will pay for these necessities?
- Tuition and Fees
- Transportation
- Books
- Childcare
- Supplies
- Other
Chemeketa offers an installment plan for each term, which splits the cost for tuition and fees into two equal payments. Half the total charges for tuition and fees are due at the time you enroll in the installment plan (plus a $15 installment plan fee) and the other half is due Friday of the seventh week of the term (for fall, winter and spring). Other payment plans may be added through out the year. If you know how you will pay for your other expenses, the installment plan may be a good option for you while you wait to hear whether you will get a financial aid award. Your account must be paid in full by the due date in order to ensure that you can register for the following term when registration begins.
Terms and Conditions of Installment Plans:
$15 installment plan fee 50% of term tuition and fees paid at time of enrollment in the plan 50% (remainder) due on Friday of the 7th week of term $10 late charge if second installment is not paid by the payment due date.
What happens if I can’t pay?
- Your account may be charged late fees if unpaid by the late fee dates listed above.
- Beginning the 3rd week of each term a financial hold will be placed on unpaid accounts. You will not be able to add or drop courses, order transcripts or view grades until the account is paid in full and the hold removed.
- Your account must be paid in full before you will be able to register for future terms.
- You will be sent to collections and held responsible for all collections costs.
Straight Talk About Paying for College
- To be eligible for grants, loans and scholarships you have to apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Chemeketa’s school code is 003218; list this on your application.
- There are deadlines to apply for financial aid at Chemeketa Community College.
- Each term has a payment deadline, if you don’t pay by the deadline you get charged late fees.
- It takes a long time between applying for financial aid and finding out if you get it.
- Approximately 40 -50% of all financial aid applications are selected for verification by the Federal Financial Aid processors. If this happens to your financial aid application, you will be required to submit additional documentation. Your file will then be reviewed in the order it was received. We do not determine who is selected for verification and there is no way for us to expedite this process. This verification process can add an additional 12 – 16 weeks to your financial aid processing time before you receive your award letter.
- It is a federal regulation that financial aid funds for all first time financial aid borrowers at Chemeketa be held for 30 days from the first day of term before the funds can be disbursed. This means that if you are a first time financial aid applicant requesting student loans, we cannot release your loan to you for 30 days after the first day of term.
- Grants, scholarships and loans are rarely enough money to live on from one term to the next. You may need another source of income.
- To pay for tuition and fees while your financial aid is being processed, OR if you are not eligible for financial aid and must pay in person you can enroll in an installment plan for each term. More information about Chemeketa’s installment plan is available at any Chemeketa campus or online.
- What happens if you just don’t pay? Unpaid accounts are submitted to a collection agency for collection procedures. Additional collection fees will be added to the total amount due.
