Advance Pay
Students may request advance pay if educational benefits have not been previously used, if he/she has been out of school at least one term, or if there are at least 30 days between the last date of attendance and the beginning of the following term, and the student is not eligible for payment of benefits for that interval.
Advance payments will only be processed for students planning to enroll at least half-time.
The request for advance pay must be submitted to the VA at least six weeks before the term begins. The advance check will be sent to Chemeketa and will be released to the student when registered and payment is processed. The Business Office holds the advance pay check and requires identification to release it to the student. Advance payment will only be requested for those students who can personally come to Chemeketa Community College Salem Campus to pick up and sign for receipt of the advance payment check.
After receiving the advance pay check, and processing payment, students must confirm registration and that their courses apply to their program with the Chemeketa Veterans' Services Office. Failure to confirm registration and course applicability may result in termination of benefits and creation of an overpayment obligation to the VA.
The advance payment pays for the month or part of month in which the term begins, plus the following month. The second and subsequent checks will be directly deposited in the student's account or be mailed to the student's home address. (Direct deposit is only available for students receiving Chapter 30, Chapter 1606 and Chapte 1607 educational benefits.)
Payments (after the advance pay) are issued the first part of the month to pay for the previous month for Chapter 35. Students receiving benefits under Chapter 30, Chapter 1606 and Chapter 1607 must verify that they are still enrolled and attending to the VA each month before payments will be issued.
