Writing Center
We invite you to use the Chemeketa Community College Writing Center. Chemeketa's College Writing Center offers a wide range of free support for Chemeketa students: tutoring, resources, and computer/software/printing use. It also hosts some tuition-based, for-credit workshops. Through individualized tutoring and independent use of this site, you can support your growth as a writer. Find information and resources to:
- build sound writing skills,
- construct composition concepts,
- understand academic honesty,
- apply your new understanding to your writing.
We are a free, campus-wide service staffed by writing instructors. We provide you with writing instruction and support your faculty in integrating writing into their curriculum.
We strive to help you become a more efficient writer by helping you review and edit your work. We encourage you to visit us on an ongoing basis as a means of developing your writing skills.
The Chemeketa Online Writing Center is now available to all Chemeketa students! Go to the online tutoring link for specific information.
Please drop in or contact the CWC for your writing needs. The Writing Center is moving to the Library in Building 9 as of Summer Term, 2008. You are welcome to stop by during open hours or you may schedule an appointment by calling 503.399.7179. Our hours during the regular academic year are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Tuesday 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Summer hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Both the Chemeketa Writing Center and Chemeketa Online Writing Center will OPEN for Summer Term June 30, 2008. The CRN for the Chemeketa Online Writing Center is 14652.
If you find that you need more writing support than can be provided in the few required writing courses you have taken, the Writing Center offers:
- One-to-one or small group instruction and assistance for program or course-specific assignments such as essays, lab reports, analyses, case studies, research papers, summaries
- Customized, one-credit mini courses are offered periodically in basic skills areas, i.e., punctuation, paragraph writing, and in resume and/or college application writing
- Computer-assisted instructional software for composing and editing
- Computer lab for composing with word processing, which includes Corel WordPerfect Suite 8, Appleworks for Macs, Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Works, Microsoft Word for Mac, internet access, scanner, zip-drive, and a printer for student use.
- Help in analyzing writing assignments
- Links to online writing labs
- Handout resources on content related to writing are available at the campus lab and on the Internet
- Use Quick Answers to learn more specifics about the services available to you.
For faculty and staff we offer:
- Consultation on Writing Projects
- Consultation/collaboration on integrating writing into programs and courses
- In-class visits for writing assistance tailored to program needs
- Class orientations to the College Writing Center
- Consultation for professional writing
Writing Center orientations for courses may be scheduled. Bring your class to the CWC or ask us to visit your class to introduce the facility, present a workshop on topics such as thesis statements, avoiding plagiarism, and more. We can work with a whole class, with small groups, and of course, with individual students. Online consultations with instructors and resources for professional/technical fields will be available soon.
