This site offers a variety of specialized dictionaries for literature, law, Internet lingo, etc. It also offers a variety of resource links, such as Roget's Thesaurus, Bartlett's Book of Quotations, WWW Acronym Server, The CIA World Fact Book, The Word Museum, The Polling Place: Public Polls and Polling Firms, and more.

Indispensible Writing Resources Page (http://www.enhancemywriting.com/) This site has won several awards and includes a variety of useful general reference materials, style manual access, descriptions of indexes in a variety of fields, access to encyclopedias and reference libraries such as UC Berkeley, writing workshops and handouts.

Writing Style Manuals & Guides

Tools for College Writing (http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/writingcenter/290/). This is an incredible site from Cabrillo College, Aptos, CA. which offers tips for college writing and is "voiced" for students with learning disabilities and second language speakers. Though it is designed for Cabrillo College students, it's secondary goal is to be a resource for all writing and new college students. In addition to college writing instruction, it offers tips on college etiquette and culture, descriptions of what to expect in a college classroom, etc.

The Elements of Style (http://www.bartleby.com/141/index.html), This is a standard writing style manual, which its editors describe as being " intended for use in which the practice of composition is combined with the study of literature, it gives in brief space the principal requirements of plain English style and concentrates attention on the rules of usage and principles of composition most commonly violated."

Paradigm Online Writing Assistant (http://www.powa.org/) This is a free, online writing guide that discussing the writing process from discovering ideas to writing about them to revising them. It also includes sections on grammar and mechanics.

Guide to Grammar and Writing (http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/) from Capital Community College. This site offers easy to access links to grammar and writing tips listed under categories of Sentence Level, Paragraph Level, Essay and Research Paper Level. It also offers grammar quizzes which are interactive.

A Guide for Writing Research Papers Based on Modern Language Association (MLA) Documentation (http://wwwold.ccc.commnet.edu/mla/). This guide to writing research papers is offered through Capital Community College in Hartford Connecticut. It is a full research guide, including tips on getting started and steps for writing an academic research paper.

A Guide To Grammar and Style (http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Writing/) by Jack Lynch, Rutgers University . A grammar and style manual with rules and tips ranging from punctuation to suggestions for making your prose more graceful, clear and concise. Information in this site can be retrieved through an alphabetical index and through a text description with links.

Getting an A on an English Paper, (http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/EngPaper/) by Jack Lynch, Rutgers University. Lynch is designing this online book for his own students and it is not complete. However, it offers useful information on Thesis, Close Reading, Research, Style and Mechanics.

Indispensable Writing Resources (http://www.quintcareers.com/writing/) In addition to being a resource for career finding, this site offers an amazing variety of writing resources for students in basic college composition courses, business writing courses, journalism courses, and literature courses. There is too much in this site for a simple description, but, briefly, it offers both bibliographies of sources (such as key reference tools in literature, journalism, etc.) as well as online resources such as links to web libraries, reference materials, other writing related websites, web writing reference sites, and more. It also offers a writing workshop titled "good writing skills."
