Changing Your My Chemeketa Password (PIN)
Your My Chemeketa user name/PIN combination is your key to gaining access to Chemeketa's Student Information System. Though you can't change your user name (it's automatically assigned when your student record is created), you do have complete control over your PIN. For security reasons, Chemeketa recommends that you follow these guidelines related to your My Chemeketa PIN:
- Change your PIN from the assigned default as soon as you possibly can! Default PINs are based on birth dates and, therefore, are not secure; anyone who can discover your birth date could gain access to your My Chemeketa account.
- Choose a PIN that you can remember but that isn't too obvious. For example, a PIN based on your Social Security number probably isn't a good idea, nor is one consisting of six identical digits (such as 111111).
- PINs must be exactly six characters long and must consist only of numerals (0-9).
- Change your PIN regularly. A change several times each year is a good security practice; changing your PIN once a month is even better!
Follow the steps listed below to change your My Chemeketa PIN:
- Log in to My Chemeketa
- Click the School Services tab
- Click on the Change your PIN link under the Personal Information Menu heading
- Enter your old PIN and your new PIN (twice) in the fields provided and then click the Change PIN button
Your PIN change should then be complete.
Newly-chosen PINs may take some time to migrate through the system. For that reason, we recommend that you change your PIN at the end of a My Chemeketa session and then wait at least several hours before logging back into My Chemeketa using your new PIN.
If you experience login problems after changing your PIN, please contact the Information Technology Help Desk (e-mail: tac@chemeketa.edu; phone: 503.399.7899) for assistance.
About your security question
My Chemeketa provides a convenient way for you to retrieve a forgotten user name or password. If you enter a special security question into the system, you can retrieve your login information at any time. You can determine what your security question is and you can change it whenever you wish.
Follow the steps listed below to enter or change your My Chemeketa security question:
- Log in to My Chemeketa
- Click the School Services tab
- Click on security question under the Personal Information Menu heading
- If you've never entered a security question and answer, you'll be able to do so by filling in the fields and clicking on the Submit button
- If you've entered a security question and answer before, your old information will be displayed and you'll have the opportunity to enter a new question and answer; after completing the fields, click the Submit button
Once you have entered a security question and answer you can ask My Chemeketa for your user name and password if you forget them. On the right-hand side of the My Chemeketa login page, you'll see an area that looks like this:

Following the CLICK HERE link will take you an area where you can fill in some personal information (your name, Social Security number, and birth date). After submitting that information you will be prompted for the answer to your security question. Entering the correct answer will cause your My Chemeketa user name and password to be displayed.
Other Common Questions About Passwords
What should I do if I think someone has access to the My Chemeketa account that belongs to me?
If you believe that your My Chemeketa password has been compromised and that someone is logging into your account, change your password immediately! Anyone with access to your account can add or drop your classes, change your personal information, read your e-mail, and perform a host of other tasks that could impact your status as a Chemeketa student. The fastest way to prevent that from happening is to change your password and keep it a secret. If you discover you cannot log into your My Chemeketa account and fear that someone else has logged in as you and changed your password, contact Chemeketa's Information Technology Help Desk (e-mail: tac@chemeketa.edu; phone: 503.399.7899) for assistance.
Can I share my login information with someone I trust?
While we cannot prevent you from sharing your My Chemeketa login information with someone else (a spouse or parent, for example), Chemeketa strongly advises against this practice. As the owner of the account, each person is ultimately responsible for the security of his/her student information. Giving your login information to anyone is a bad practice and violates Chemeketa's security guidelines. The college will never provide assistance (over the phone or in person) to someone who is attempting to use your login information to conduct business on your behalf.
What if I forget my PIN?
Security policies prohibit Chemeketa employees from viewing or distributing the PINs of users. If you forget your PIN, you have two choices: (1) use the procedure detailed above to retrieve your user name and PIN or (2) contact the IT Help Desk during regular business hours and ask that your PIN be reset.
Why is the system requiring me to change my PIN or security question?
Part of a good security program includes regular "forced" changes of passwords or other sensitive information. My Chemeketa may ask you to change your PIN if it has not been changed for a specific period of time. Please understand that this is for your own security (and to safeguard your personal information). When the system requires a PIN or security question update you will be given specific directions about what to do. Just follow those directions and you should be fine. If problems arise, contact the IT Help Desk (503.399.7899) during regular business hours.
