What if my student needs help with classes?
Chemeketa offers a variety of academic support services for our students including free tutoring, a college writing center, a math lab, a study skills lab, the learning resource center and several computer labs.
Where can my student receive assistance finding a job?
The Job Placement center has job listings relating to specific career programs at Chemeketa and part-time work to help students defray their educational expenses. Chemeketa also has a Job & Career Center at each campus that can assist students with job search.
Where can my student get involved on campus?
Chemeketa offers a number of opportunities for participation. The first place to begin your exploration for involvement is Student Life. Student Life offers leadership development opportunities, the Multicultural Center, student employment possibilities, clubs and organizations, and sponsors a variety of events and activities.
What if my student needs to connect with a counselor or advisor?
Free counseling and advising is available to all Chemeketa students. Counselors and advising specialists help students select classes and majors. Counselors also help students with career choices and personal concerns.
Is student health insurance available?
Community colleges in Oregon use a plan that's serviced by Insurance Benefits, LLC (located in Coburg, OR-- 1.800.644.5156). They offer a student accident and sickness insurance plan for community college students. Chemeketa does not have an individual contact person with respect to student health insurance. We recommend you contact the insurance company directly. Student health insurance can also be purchased directly from your own insurance company.
I have concerns about drug and alcohol issues. What resources are available on campus?
PANDA (Prevent Alcohol ‘N Drug Abuse) offers 12-Step self-help support meetings for substance abuse and other compulsive behaviors. Meetings are open to anyone who has or suspects they have a problem with drugs/alcohol/ other compulsions.
I have concerns about safety on campus.
Chemeketa’s campuses are quite safe. Safety on campus is a community effort among our students, administration, faculty, staff and volunteers. Our Public Safety Office is committed to preserving an open and safe environment on behalf of every person who uses, works and learns at Chemeketa. My student or my family would like to live closer to the Salem campus. Any suggestions?
There are several apartment complexes within walking distance of campus that house many of our students. The Student Life Office maintains a bulletin board listing available housing, including apartments for rent, rooms for rent in homes, homes for rent, and roommates wanted. In addition, visit Move.com for a listing of apartments close to Chemeketa.
