Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and/or 4 years basketball coaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of the NWAACC Code
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Essential Functions:
- Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff, and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds
- Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
- Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools
- Conducting basketball program in accordance with established conference rules and regulations and keeping updated on all eligibility rules and regulations
- Promoting a positive environment for learning and development; fostering positive communications and leading the team in goal-setting and small group discussions
- Teaching physical conditioning and fundamentals of basketball
- Supervising assistant coaches and volunteers
- Recruiting quality student athletes in accordance with college policies and conference rules, and within guidelines and allowable geographical recruiting areas
- Participation and involvement in Athletic Department Fundraising
- Scouting opponents and prospective student athletes
- Building relationships with the local high school programs to foster an environment that encourages local athletes to eventually enroll at Chemeketa Community College
- Determining and recommending, to the Director, athletes eligible to receive letters of intent and financial awards
- Informing student athletes of eligibility rules and regulations, monitoring student eligibility and helping ensure their success
- Working with athletes, faculty, and Athletic Director, tracking academic progress of athletes
- Arranging season schedule in cooperation with Athletic Director
- Planning and conducting practices
- Initiating contacts with the news, radio, and television media and cultivating interest and cooperation
- Recording individual, team, and season statistics and records; reporting team scores to the NWAACC office and to local news media
- Attending coaches' meetings
- Promoting and articulating the basketball program to student body, faculty, booster groups, and the community and implementing new ideas or policies that will strengthen the program
- Purchasing and maintaining all sport equipment and supplies in cooperation with Athletic Director
- Maintaining current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR
