Position Overview
This position combines instructional duties, program development and coordination duties. Responsibilities include instruction, curriculum development, orientation and intake, behavior management activities, scheduling, site coordination, report generation and program monitoring.
Terms of Employment
100 percent, 180 day academic year assignment.
Teaching assignment may include GED Options courses and high school completion courses both day and evening as well as week-end courses and the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies, .e.g. telecourses, cable television and on-line/internet courses, hybrid or team teaching courses. Duty days may fluctuate from the traditional September-June schedule. Recently hired faculty is expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program. Some travel within the region may be required.
Must provide official transcript from an accredited institution to establish completion of Master’s degree or sufficient advancement in course work to show completion within one year of hire. As applicable, must complete agreement to engage in completion of Master’s degree within one year of hire.
Salary and Benefits
2007/2008 Salary Range: $38,378 to $66,944/yr. Salary placement is subject to contract negotiations depending on education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, social science, mathematics, language arts, or related field from an accredited institution (or expectation of acquisition of Master’s degree within one year of hire). At least one year of teaching experience in basic skills (reading, writing, math and GED preparation) with adults and at risk youth. Experience planning and implementing instructional programs in individual and group settings. Experience with curriculum development. Experience using software applications. Experience working with/responding to students of various age groups, diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching certification at the high school level from an accredited institution in language arts, reading, special education or math; two or more years full-time teaching experience of basic skills with at risk high school students. Experience in cooperative learning environments; knowledge of various strategies and techniques. Experience with multiple delivery methods in a variety of settings. Experience with program planning and coordination. Experience with stand alone instructional and networked software. Bi-lingual: English/Spanish.
Essential Functions
- Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data-gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
- Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity into the workplace
- Instructs multiple GED subjects and multiple levels
- Uses behavior management system and documents student behavior
- Instructs and manages records and grades in assigned credit classes in developmental education, GED Options preparation, high school completion and other areas as needed
- Maintains records of attendance, student competencies and progress
- Determines learning needs of students through College assessment instruments (CASAS, TABE and College placement tests); monitors and evaluates progress, maintains records of student outcomes and progress
- Prepares weekly and quarterly reports
- Participates in curriculum development; recommends textbooks, software and assessment instruments; order materials within a budget
- Assists with academic advising and registration
- Contributes to team efforts in Developmental Education department, Outreach Campus Learning Centers, the Woodburn Campus including instructional, administrative, student services, and facilities coordination
- Participates in “staffing” of students for progress reports
- Attends program department and college meetings and serves on college committees
- Provides classroom environment conducive to learner growth that includes working in small groups with other students, self-directed learning and teacher directed learning
- Works closely with area agencies, community, and educational organizations
- Serves as academic advisor to students and refers students to proper College services
- Works collaboratively with instructional assistant on instruction, records, testing, orientation and students’ needs
- Problem solves on a daily basis
