Terms of Employment
100 percent, 180 days academic year assignment.
Teaching assignment may include the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies; e.g. telecourses, cable television and on-line/Internet courses. Duty days may fluctuate from the traditional September – June schedule. Recently hired faculty is expected to participate in a new faculty orientation.
Must provide official transcript/certification upon hire to support degree and/or course work from an accredited institution.
Current driver’s license. If license is from out of state must obtain valid OR driver’s license within three weeks of hire. The instructor must transport students to off campus sites to do surveying. The instructor must also be able to carry, setup and demonstrate survey equipment weighing 25 to 45 lbs.
Successful applicant must pass security inquiry which may include but is not limited to criminal, driving, and credit check; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
Salary and Benefits
2007/2008 Salary Range: $38,378 to $69,944/yr. Initial salary placement is subject to contract negotiations depending on education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology or closely related technical area.
Two years’ experience working as a civil engineering technician, drafter, or survey technician. Proficient with AutoCAD Version 2005 or newer. Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or higher in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related technical area. LSIT, EIT, PE or PLS Professional registration or ability to obtain professional registration within three years. Experience using the following hardware or software:
- TDS software and hardware for data collection
- Topcon Total station and automatic levels
- Leica system 500 GPS data collectors and Ski Pro software
- Autodesk Land Development Desktop, AutoCAD Map, Autodesk Civil 3D
- Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
One year teaching or training experience. Experience developing land survey field books and field note reduction. Experience in subdivision, utility and roadway design and layout. Demonstrated ability or desire to work with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse students and communities.
Essential Functions
- Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools and integrate technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
- Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity into the workplace
- Teaches Civil Engineering Technology courses, both lectures and laboratories using AutoDesk Land Development Desktop, Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD Map software. Curriculum includes: Introductory Through Moderately Advanced Plane Survey, Deed Research, Fundamentals of GPS Survey, Survey Mapping, Subdivision Design and Moderate Fluid Hydraulics Applications
- Teaches Survey Technology courses, both lectures and hands-on field laboratories in all weather and site conditions
- Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes
- Participates in curriculum development
- Actively participates in student success and advising
- Maintains office hours for students
- Meets all scheduled classes
- Recommends text books and other instructional materials and equipment
- Attends program and department meetings
- Serves on college committees as needed
- Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual grades when required
- Provides students with course syllabi
- Acts as a strong team member and student role model in areas of team work, work ethics, adaptability, communications, and work quality
- Actively participates in the program’s success, especially how the program interfaces with industry, the rest of the college, higher education, the community and local high schools
- Functions as a life-long learner
- Promotes and applies the college’s values for teaching and learning:
