Terms of Employment
100 percent, academic year assignment. Continuation of this position is dependent on the funding that supports the position.
This position may include day, evening, and/or weekend assignments. The use of non-traditional delivery methodologies as well as assignments on the work-site or in community based locations may be assigned. Some travel within the region may be required. Duty days may vary from the traditional September-June schedule. Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program.
Successful applicant must pass security inquiry which may include but is not limited to criminal, driving, and credit check; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
Salary and Benefits
2007/2008 Salary Range: $38,378 to $66,944/yr. Salary placement is subject to contract negotiations depending on education and experience. Hires will normally be at Step 3.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in adult education, developmental education, education, or related field. Two years’ instructional experience or equivalent in adult basic skills, GED Preparation, or developmental education. Experience with curriculum development. Experience relating to students of various ages, ethnic backgrounds, languages, and abilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience integrating computers and other technology into instruction. Knowledge of strategies to instruct students with disabilities and adult beginning readers and writers. Ability to perform and apply basic math operations. Background in development of curriculum, instruction and assessment in the contexts of adult students’ roles as workers, community members and family members. Experience in a community college ABE/GED or developmental education program. Proficiency in a second language (eg. Spanish, Russian, sign language).
Essential Functions
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and encourages a sensitivity to diversity in the workplace
- Uses appropriate technology for instruction, communication, and data gathering and integrates technology into curriculum and instruction
- Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
- Instructs assigned basic skill classes in reading, writing, math, GED Preparation, computer literacy, and career and life skills
- Meets all scheduled classes and/or appointments as assigned
- Teaches basic skills and GED Preparation in a facilitated study setting
- Determines learning needs of students; monitors and evaluates learner progress
- Works collaboratively with faculty and other staff to plan and implement a comprehensive, coordinated program for adult learners
- Maintains records of attendance, student outcomes, progress, and contact with agencies and school districts
- Participates in curriculum development including applied or contextual learning and assessment; recommends textbooks, software, and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends course outline development and revision
- Assists with academic advising and registration
- Applies the College’s values for teaching and learning:
