When do I request an accommodation?
It depends. You may need an accommodation in order to complete an application because you are unable to read or write. You may need an accommodation for the interview because you are using a wheel chair for mobility purposes and must be able to enter the interviewer’s office space. If no accommodations are needed other than for the job, ask after a job offer has been made or after you start the job. You should have already determined what the accommodations are that you will need and where you can get them. Do not expect the employer to do this for you. If you do not know, you can talk with Access Technologies, Inc. or Job Accommodations Network.
For more information about disclosing or requesting accomodations, you can call the Northwest ADA and Information Technology Center at 800.949.4232 or the Job Accommodations Network at 800.526.7234.
