Braille Translation
It is easiest to convert a Word document to Braille:
1. Open your file in Word.
2. Go to the Add Ins pull-down menu and choose "DBT".
3. Choose "emboss direct" and follow the prompts.
If DBT is not available in Word:
1. Look for DBT on the desktop or go to Duxbury and then DBTWIN in the list of programs.
2. Go to the file menu and open the document you need translated to Braille.
3. After the document is open, choose "Translate" from the File Menu. It's appearance will change to a Braille version.
4. Go to the File menu again and choose "Emboss".
Once printing has stopped, use the Braille printer's keypad and do the following:
1. Press the "OL" button on the top right of the Braille printer keypad to take the printer off-line.
2. Then press the "FF" key (two buttons below the "OL" button in order to move the paper forward.
3. Tear off the last printed sheet carefully so you do not tear the tracks on the clean sheet.
4. Press the number 2 and then the "E" key on the bottom row of keys. This will pull the paper back in to the printer and set the "top of form". The printer will then be back on-line and ready for the next print job.
** Important Notes:
If you want to emboss/Braille a PowerPoint presentation, please save the presentation as an outline first. This converts the PowerPoint to RTF or Ridgetext format. However, Duxbury for Windows (DBTWIN) does not translate RTF versions of documents correctly. Therefore, you will need to save the RTF document as a Word version before Brailling (embossing). Thank you.
