Oregon State University Internship Opportunities

Workforce Recruitment Program

Coordinated by the Office of Disability Employment Policy and the U.S. Department of Defense, the Workforce Recruitment Program aims to provide summer work experience, and in some cases full-time employment, for college students with disabilities.

The National Business & Disability Council

Emerging Leaders is a highly competitive program that places undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities in fulfilling summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities. Emerging Leaders partners with businesses to help them find outstanding young talent while also considering diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices.

Student applicants are referred to businesses through a careful screening process that helps ensure that the internship placement is a good fit for both parties.

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Annual scholarship opportunity for Hispanics throughout Oregon.

AC and SMART Grants

The new Academic Competitiveness (AC) grants and the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) grants provide $790 million in funding for this fall and $4.5 billion over the next five years. The AC grants provide college students who completed a rigorous course of study in high school with additional funds of up to $750 during their freshman year and up to $1,300 during their sophomore year. This is in addition to Pell Grant funds students already are receiving. College juniors and seniors who are eligible for SMART grants automatically will receive up to $4,000 in additional aid next year. Information on both grants can be found at the above link.

National Scholarship Competition for College Students with Disabilities

disABLEdperson Inc. announces its Fall 2009 Nationally Based College Scholarship Competition for disabled college students. The competition begins August 17, 2009 and goes through October 14, 2009. More information can be found at the link above.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad for up to one academic year. The program aims to diversify the kinds of student who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. The Gilman Program seeks to assist students from a diverse range and type of two-year and four-year public and private institutions from all 50 states. Deadline for application is Oct 9, 2007.

1800WHEELCHAIR.COM

1800Wheelchair.com announces their second annual scholarship award. Established in 2006, the scholarship fund will award one $500 scholarship to an undergraduate student. The scholarship is open to students of any major or concentration. The winner's name, essay and photo will be posted on 1800wheelchair.com. Although not a requirement, preference will be given to students with mobility disabilities. Deadline for application is December 15, 2009.

U.S. News & World Report and AXA Foundation AXA Achievement Scholarships

Provide resources that help make college possible for qualified students. Maximum Award: $25,000. 52 winners will recieve $10,000 and out of those 10 will also recieve a national award of $15,000.

IES Diversity Scholarships

The Institute for International Education of Students (IES) is committed to providing opportunities for students of diverse cultural backgrounds who have been traditionally under-represented on study abroad programs. Equally, IES recognizes those students who show an interest in enhancing the study abroad experience by acknowledging, exploring, and contributing to the presence of multiple groups, perspectives, and ideas within the host country. Their mission is to provide students and U.S. colleges and universities with high-quality academic study abroad programs that foster intercultural development.

Scholarships for Nursing Students (From ExceptionalNurse.com)

ExceptionalNurse.com awards a scholarship of $250.00 to a qualified student with a disability to continue their education in a nursing education program. Preference is given to undergraduate students. Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to the academic study of nursing and career excellence. This scholarship is not renewable and will only be awarded once.

Peter Gili Scholarship Award

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. This scholarship has been donated by family members and friends in memory of Peter Gili.

Caroline Simpson Maheady Scholarship Award

A $250.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. Preference will be given to an undergraduate student, of Scottish descent, who has demonstrated a commitment to working with people with disabilities.

Jill Laura Creedon Scholarship Award

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability or medical challenge. This scholarship is funded by the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing's Future in honor of Jill Laura Creedon.

Anna May Rolando Scholarship Award

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. Preference will be given to a graduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to working with people with disabilities.

Bruno Rolando Scholarship Award

A $250.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. Preference will be given to a nursing student who is employed at a Veteran's Hospital.

Mary Serra Gili Scholarship Award

A $250.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. This scholarship has been donated by Thomas Gili.

Genevieve Saran Richmond Award

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student with a disability. This scholarship has been donated by Leslie and Virginia Fiur.
