Impairment-Related Work Expenses

These are expenses a person recieving disability or supplemental Social Security benefits must spend in order to go to work. For instance, the person must pay more for paratransit services because there is no accessible bus stop near his or her workplace.  She will be allowed the difference between the cost of transportation for the average person and what she actually has to pay.  These amounts are removed before calculating the SGA amount for continued eligibility.  For a more detailed definition, look at the HTML link above and do a text search for "impairment-related".
