Searching for Chemeketa'sNext President

Presidential Search

The search is underway for Chemeketa Community College’s next president.

March 11- At a special Chemeketa Board of Education’s meeting held Monday, March 11th, the board announced that they have asked Dr. Jessica Howard to assume the role of President/CEO of Chemeketa Community College. She is expected to assume the office on July 8, 2019.  Dr. Howard will be the 11th President of Chemeketa Community College, following the upcoming retirement of President, Julie Huckestein on July 7th.

“It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Jessica Howard has accepted the position of President/CEO for Chemeketa Community College, said Board Chair Neva Hutchinson. Her proven leadership and personal dedication to student success, access and inclusion for all students, makes her a perfect match for Chemeketa. It was clear from the feedback that we received from the community, faculty, and staff that Dr. Howard is the right person to lead us as we enter the next chapter of Chemeketa’s history.”

Jessica Howard, Ph.D., is Campus President, Southeast Campus, Portland Community College in Portland, OR. She previously served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Howard earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Performance Studies at New York University in New York, NY; a Master and Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Bachelor of Arts in English from Rice University in Houston, TX; and an Associate of Arts from San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX.

    Feb. 6- Finalists announced

    Jan. 30-31- Confidential interviews with semifinalists; after the final interview, the Committee deliberates and selects 3 – 5 finalists to forward to the Board for further consideration

    Jan. 16- Discussion and selection of 7 – 9 semifinalist candidates.

    Jan. 8-14- Presidential Search Advisory Committee members review confidential applications independently on ACCT secure web portal. 

    Jan. 7- Target Date for Receipt of Applications (open until filled)

    Oct. 19- The Presidential Profile is now available. Thanks to all who made suggestions and recommendations.

    Oct. 12- Thanks to everyone who filled out the electronic survey. The information you provided will be used in the creation of a presidential profile.

    Oct. 5- We thank all of you who participated in the public forums throughout the district on Oct. 3 & 4. The information gathered from this and the electronic questionnaire will be used in developing a presidential profile.

    Sept. 27- The membership of the Presidential Search Committee has been announced.
