Upward Bound

Upward Bound’s educational and cultural activities help high school students explore career choices and develop the skills needed to be successful in college.

Upward Bound Services

  • Visits to colleges to explore educational opportunities
  • Cultural and recreation events
  • Assistance with SAT or ACT preparation, completing college admission and financial aid applications
  • Scholarship workshops
  • Tutoring in reading, writing, math, science and foreign languages
  • Individual and group advising
  • Career and vocational exploration
  • Summer Academy – a one week camp followed by five weeks of academic study
  • Stipends for those who actively participate in the program

Who is Eligible?

  • Currently enrolled in 9th, 10th or 11th grade
  • Attend North Salem High, McKay High or Woodburn Academy of International Studies
  • First-generation college-bound student (neither parent has a bachelors degree)
  • Students who meet federal low-income requirements
  • Plan to go to college and have academic potential
  • Be willing to participate in all aspects of the Upward Bound Program

Upward Bound Schedule

  • UB Tutoring is currently being offered through Zoom on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Please email your advisor for the zoom link
  • UB advising meetings are available through Zoom or F2F on the Chemeketa campus (Building 2, Room 230) or other locations. Please contact your UB advisor to schedule

Upward Bound is 100% federally funded at $366,430 annually.
