Week Three Checklist
You completed iSTART. It's the end of week three. Now what?
Here are a few action items to help you succeed in your first and second terms and stay eligible for financial aid.
Schedule an Advising Appointment
Schedule a “next term advising” appointment with your academic advisor or success coach for the week of Halloween (starting Oct. 30) to remove your registration hold and get the winter term schedule you want.
Winter registration begins as follows:
- Nov. 16 for students who have completed 13–29 credits
- Nov. 17 for students who have completed 0–12 credits
Success Checklist
-
1. Make sure you are taking at least the minimum required number of credits
You need to take a required number of credits to meet financial aid eligibility requirements to avoid being denied aid. Financial aid includes grants, scholarships, and loans. If you need to drop a class or register for additional credits, speak with your academic advisor or success coach first to understand how this will affect your financial aid and GPA, and what options you may have. Schedule an appointment through Navigate.
The last day to drop classes without responsibility for grades is Friday, Nov. 3 by 5 pm. Please note, that you will not receive a refund or credit.
-
2. Check your Fall Term balance
If you changed your schedule after your financial aid award was disbursed, you may still have a balance or a refund may be on its way. An unpaid balance will result in a hold on your account which will prevent you from adding or dropping classes, checking out books or laptops, or receiving financial aid.
Log in to your My Chemeketa > click on Account on the right-hand panel > select Account summary by term. If there is a balance, then you need to pay it. If there is a negative sign in front of the balance, it means you will receive a refund. If it’s a 0, then you are good.
If your financial aid has not come through, email Financial Aid, call them at 503.399.5018, or visit them on the Salem Campus in Bldg. 2, Rm. 200. You can also contact Yesica Navarro.
-
3. Make sure you have the required textbooks and supplies
You can borrow textbooks and laptops for free from the Chemeketa Library. They also have textbooks you can only use in the library for a few hours at no cost. You can check out a calculator for a low cost from the Math Hub in Bldg. 3, Rm. 277 on the Salem Campus. They also have math textbooks you can only use in the Math Hub for no additional cost.
-
4. Learn to Manage Your Time
Plan the term well and establish a routine so that you have appropriate time to meet all your responsibilities and have time to rejuvenate yourself. Check your course syllabi in Canvas to see a week-by-week schedule of assignments, readings, and dates for final projects or tests, and plan ahead. Download a copy of the 2023-24 Student Planner & Handbook.
